Data Driven Animation

The first animation system I sought to create was for music videos. The goal was to be able to input midi data from a song of mine to procedurally create a corresponding animation.

Many iterations of this system were created - one based on live midi signals from Ableton or a controller, another utilizing UE5’s Quartz and playing midi internally. The latest version is created using a blueprint utility widget I developed that creates keyframes in Sequencer from data tables.

This tool enabled a number of other valuable abilities, such as triggering animations based on data created in video editing software and empowering other members of a content creation pipeline to make character animation decisions.

Character Movement in this video is based on data imported from Premiere Pro
